I'm a little unclear on the role of the Fay. I feel like the story is mainly about her picking up the mantle of chieftain, now that her father has been killed. I don't see what the role of the Fay play in this story. Does the father become a Fay in the end, or is he a ghost?
More like a grim reaper. A fantasy version of the reaper. There is a line that states that the fay takes the dead chiefs to the afterlife, also a line that says that she knows that his death is near cause the fay comes for him.
